It's actually the YUV 4:2:0 to YUV 4:2:2 colorspace conversion QuickTime is making behind the scenes. I can say that the most expensive call in my app isn't anything to do w/ the actual decoding process. Interesting as I've been using some of the DivX HD movie trailers for testing and I've found performance to be either equal to or better than Apple's QuickTime Player.app on my 2x 2.0GHz PM G5 w/ Nvidia GeForce 6800 Ultra (yeah bad HW comparison). Playback was not bad at all though, even on the other video modes. I just tried it on a HD resolution DivX (available here: ) and general playback (even using 1) was slower than Quicktime Player. Heh, it's 'alpha' quality code right now so the bomb was a good choice IMHO.
The bomb as an icon made me nervous about opening the app though.
